Two day!

Hello everyone! I hope you are all having a wonderful July weekend. The Sonoma County Fair opened yesterday, so we just had to go see how our Zentangle-inspired art entries fared...and eat some delicious and terrible for you fair food!

I entered my favorite Zendala...and got a 2nd place ribbon!!!

My husband entered a fantastic Zentangle-inspired Ball Python drawing...and got a 1st place ribbon!!!

My once a year funnel cake...

The weather was perfect and it wasn't too crowded...a perfect fair day!

Now, to explain the title of this post. There will be TWO workshops on Saturday, August 29! A Zendala workshop in the morning from 10:30am-12:00pm and a Monotangling workshop in the afternoon from 1:00pm-2:30pm. Each one costs $45, but if you take both, the cost will be $80...a savings of $10! See the information below and on my "Upcoming Zentangle Workshops" page.

I hope to see you all there! Until next time...have a great weekend.

Cars and Planes

Here is something fun for all my Zentangle friends. My son is a HUGE fan of Disney's Cars and Planes. So, of course we have acquired all the die cast figures. During one of the many periods of air racing and track racing, I noticed one particular plane and one particular car were very tangled. I had to have them for myself and since it would be wrong to steal my son's (LOL), I purchased die cast figures in 1:43 scale for myself. See them below:

Ishani from "Planes"

Too much fun. Have a good week!

It's 2015

Happy belated New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. We sure did.

Workshop times have been scheduled for 2015. The first workshop of the year will be Introduction to Zentangle on Sunday 2/8 (see image below). I am developing new Zentangle workshops...Zentangle on Fabric and Organic Zentangle. I will also be teaching three favorites...Zendalas and Monotangling and Zentangle with Color. Keep checking back for dates

I have been really enjoying my "Tangle-a-day" calendar by Carole Ohl, CZT. It has brought me focus and fulfillment. Some days I note an event and some days I note what I am thankful for, always with a tangle (or two or three). Other days I only tangle. I hope to keep it up, but it is only 10 days into the new year. I'll report back later in the year.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend!

A new approach

When Zentangle released their new Bijou tiles I immediately thought...Monotangling. I feel the size of the Bijou tiles (2in x 2in) is perfect for practicing tangles. I can practice tangles new to me, tanglenhancements, tangleations, and new shading techniques.

In view of that, I decided to try a new approach to creating a Zentangle tile this weekend: practice some tangles on Bijou tiles, put them together on an original Zentangle tile, and display them side by side.

I found this album by We R Memory Keepers at my local Beverly's Fabrics. I couldn't believe my eyes! It's a 4in x 4in album with pages perfect for Bijou and original Zentangle tiles. The albums come in several colors and the refill protectors come in packs of 10 pages. I see many more of these albums in my future.

Now to a workshop announcement...

The last workshop of 2014 will be Zentangle-inspired Holiday Card Making on Saturday 11/8 10am-12noon at Rileystreet in Santa Rosa. As with all of my advanced workshops, Zentangle 101 (Introduction to Zentangle) is a prerequisite. Join me for a fun filled morning creating beautiful holiday cards.

I will try to post again sooner than later. Until then...happy tangling!

The Zendala Dare is back!  The theme of the dare is "Happy" and it certainly makes me happy to be drawing and creating Zendalas.  Like I told my students during my Zendala workshop, Zendalas used to terrify me.  They are round!  (I did not want to leave the comfort of the neat and tidy little 3.5"x3.5" square tile!)  There are so many more areas to tangle in!  (Some strings have over 20 spaces!)  Do I have to draw a different tangle in each space?!  (That's a lot of different tangles!)  I overcame my fears in steps.  Round tiles are just as aesthetically pleasing as square tiles.  I don't need to draw in every area...I can fill in some spaces and leave some spaces open.  And the strings allow for repetition of tangles.  Once I realized these things I began to love Zendalas.  That being said, below is my interpretation of Zendala Dare #94 "Happy".

Tangles (or "tangleations") used: Pepper, 'Nzeppel, Tipple, Flux

Now, onto this weekend.  RileyStreet Art Supply Santa Rosa is holding their annual Anniversary Sale and Demonstration Day this Saturday (June 21) from 9am-5pm.  I will be there all day demonstrating the wonderful art of Zentangle drawing on Strathmore Artist Tiles.  Please come by and see me!

Next Introduction to Zentangle workshop will be on Saturday 7/12/14 at 10am!

Have a great week!
